I’m prepping for the CompTIA CySA+ Cyber Security Analyst Exam! Here’s how I ended up here:
Looking at cyber security certifications, there are many to choose from at varying levels of competency. If you are getting started in cyber security, you can get certifications such as CompTIA’s Security+ or CySA+ (Cyber Security Analyst).
If you already have the Security+ and are looking to take a deeper dive into the cyber security realm, CySA+ might be a good choice. It can get you on the road to CASP+, PenTest+, or even CISSP!
Before you run out and buy an exam voucher, there are some things to consider. First, there are a lot of topics covered on the exam! But, if you have been working in the cyber security world for at least a few years most of it should at least be familiar. The test is now on version CS0-002, which launched in April 2020. It’s a typical multi-choice test and you need 750 our of 900 points to pass. They give you 165 minutes and only 85 questions, so it looks like they expect you to think about each one, not just simple memorize and regurgitate.
Here’s a link to CompTIA’s site with more information on the test: CompTIA CySA+
Be ready for any of the “tricky” questions that might come up! These are the ones that you can still answer wrongly even when you know the material. This is usually my downfall…it comes down to wording…read ALL the words! Twice!
As always, when preparing for something like this you need the right tools. I’ve used the CompTIA CySA+ Study Guide Exam CS0-002 from Sybex, written by Mike Chapple and David Seidl. This book is great and does a really good job putting all the information together in a logical way that makes it easy to understand. I’ve included an Amazon Affiliate link to purchase below – not even forty bucks, it’s a great deal!
This book has practice tests and they are a great tool to use when studying! I generally use them to identify my weaknesses are then I can focus on them. Knowing what you don’t know…or don’t know is more valuable than knowing what you know!
